IHE is doing an excellent job collecting donations for our food pantry and shoe drive! We are less than 500 items away from our food drive goal! If we meet or exceed 1,197 items, the entire school will earn an ice cream party. Come on IHE! We can do this!
The class donating the most items will receive a popcorn party with the principal! So far, Mrs. Sullivan‘s class is in the lead for the food drive and Mrs. Wheeler‘s class is in the lead for the shoe drive!
Please continue to bring in nonperishable items and shoes! Our deadline is November 16 for the food drive and November 17 for the shoe drive.

Each month, there will be a different “character theme” for students. Each IHE grade level teacher will have the opportunity to nominate one of their students at the end of each month who they feel have demonstrated the specific character trait through their true actions, words, and behaviors. Congratulations to our October Good Character Students! October word of the month was Responsibility.
November Word of the Month: Honesty
It’s time to clean out your closets because the shoe drive is back! Indian Hills is proud to announce that we will partner with the Ozark Water Project in order to get clean drinking water to people in struggling parts of our world. The Ozark Water Project will use out donated shoes to help those in need and receive funds based on the total weight of the shoes we collect. Money raised will be used on equipment and actual drilling wells.
The kickoff for our Shoe Drive will be Wednesday, November 1, 2017. We will have two weeks to collect as many shoes as possible. In the past, we’ve collected more than 1,200 pairs of shoes! Let’s make this year our best donation ever.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to extend compassion and caring outside of our school and local community. Thank you for helping us make an impact around the world. The challenge is on! Which grade level will collect the most shoes?
IHE staff & students had an awesome time celebrating Fit 2 Live Week! The students participated in lessons on topics such as saying no to drugs, being kind to others and not bullying, eating healthy, getting plenty of physical activity, stress prevention, and handling peer pressure. They also enjoyed the special additions to their uniforms each day. The Book Character parade was the perfect way to end an exciting week!

IHE BOX CITY!
In this activity, IHE second graders worked with their parents to plan and build a city entirely out of recycled materials. Our parents and students put on many different hats as they planned, built, and engineered their piece of the city. They became architects and construction workers all in one activity. This project covered educational standards across the curriculum!
Social Sciences: community as a reflection of its people; local history and culture, reading, interpreting, and creating maps, defining a “sense of place”;
Mathematics: geometry, measurement and estimation, scale and proportion;
Science & Technology/Engineering: the engineering design process, structures and materials, ecosystems, energy systems and sustainable design;
Visual Arts: the elements and principles of design, architecture in community, methods, materials and techniques;
English Language Arts: questioning, listening and contributing, developing a vocabulary of architecture and design, composition.
Way to go IHE second graders! OUR CITY IS BEAUTIFUL!

IHE Jr. Fire Marshals were trained by the North Little Rock Fire Department on October 11, 2017. The students joined all elementary school fire marshals from around the North Little Rock School District for their annual training.
