As students and staff make their way to our fifteen campuses on Monday, they will be greeted by members of our reorganized Safety Services Department. The North Little Rock Board of Education approved the Superintendent’s proposal to reorganize the department, an investment of more than $700,000 over a two-year period.
Over the summer, Chief Hayward Finks, the Director of Safety Services, began building the department and then leading training sessions, which included topics such as active shooter drills, crisis planning, and de-escalation tactics, so that members of the department would know their expectations and responsibilities to keep students and staff safe.
“Our security personnel have been trained to provide the safest environment where teachers can teach and students can learn,” Chief Hayward Finks, Director of Safety Services.
School Resource Officers (SROs) are officers with arrest powers who work in a school setting. These SROs, though in our schools, are members of the North Little Rock Police Department. These individuals will be serving at the Center of Excellence, North Little Rock High School, North Little Rock Middle School - Seventh & Eighth Grade Campus, and North Little Rock Middle School - Sixth Grade Campus.
SROs in the North Little Rock School District are the following: (Bottom row, from left to right): Officer Drew Montgomery, Sergeant Chauncey Sims, Officer Michael Thomas, (Top row, from left to right): Officer Shane Madison, Officer Jay Boody, Officer Shannon Yancey, and Officer Jerry Collins.
Campus security officers will be located at North Little Rock Academy, North Little Rock Center of Excellence (COE), North Little Rock High School (NLRHS), North Little Rock Middle School – Seventh & Eighth Grade Campus, and North Little Rock Middle School – Sixth Grade Campus. These individuals will provide general security patrols of the campuses.
