As President of the North Little Rock Board of Education, I want to take a moment to say thank you to the administration, staff, and local law enforcement for their efforts following a challenging week for all school districts in Arkansas.
There are not many things over which I've lost sleep; however, this week was much different. We live in a time where you cannot overlook or take lightly any threat against our students and staff.
I want to first thank Superintendent Bobby Acklin for moving swiftly to ensure the safety of our students and staff. As soon as he was made aware of this, Superintendent Acklin met with Safe Schools Coordinator Sandy Williams to coordinate enhanced security measures. I witnessed district leaders operate with a sense of urgency and confidence that signified excellence in teamwork.
I also want to thank the parents, students, staff, and the community for their vigilance and patience. I thank you for the trust you placed in the district and in its leaders.
I want to acknowledge the work of the North Little Rock Police Department, who stepped up and went above and beyond to ensure safety at every campus. We are so blessed to have a strong, quick-thinking, and compassionate police force who loves this community and the people in it.
We are a strong community because everyone works together. It was certainly on display this week. We should all be glad to call North Little Rock home.
Yours in Education,
Tracy Steele
