Math Olympiads

This year, the Math Olympiads served over 100,000 students on approximately 3,500 teams nationally and about 50,000 students on 1,000 teams in more than 30 countries. Since 1979, it has provided challenging, thought-provoking problems that stretch the abilities of students in grades 4-8, strengthening their foundation for both assessment tests and more advanced studies. Our children have responded to the challenge with eagerness and enthusiasm.

All participants

Several students from the Sixth Grade Campus were among the approximately 100,000 students worldwide to participate in this year’s Math Olympiad Program. They participated in a series of five monthly contests where they were asked to solve five different math problems each, November to March. This competition requires students to solve unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively. Dawn McLain, 6th Grade Math MCL and teacher, and Alicia Bailey, 6th Grade Counselor, led and coached the students during the competition.

The students will be recognized with certificates for participation. The top participants from the Sixth Grade Campus were Paxton Bowsman and David Wood. They will be receiving a trophy and a silver pin. The silver pin is awarded to those students who place in the top 10%.

Top 10%

A total of 35 students participated in the competition, and 22 of those students placed between the top 20-50%.  They will receive an embroidered felt patch.
