Arkansas Civics Exam

Act 478 AR Civics Exam Policy

Act 478 of 2017 requires all students seeking a high school diploma to pass the Arkansas Civics Exam with a score of 60% or better. This requirement begins with the 2018-2019 school year. The Arkansas State Board of Education has determined the following policies will be implemented by Arkansas public schools who are required to administer the Arkansas Civics Exam.

Who will test at NLRHS?  First semester, students currently classified as Seniors; second semester, students classified as Juniors.

Are there exclusions?  A student may be excluded based on their IEP if the IEP team determines there are not sufficient accommodations for the student to access the exam.

When will NLRHS Seniors take the exam?  NLRHS Seniors are currently prepping for the exam during their daily flex block. Students will begin taking the exam November 28 with the hope that all have passed it by December 14.  Any senior who does not pass the exam prior to the holiday break will be allowed additional prep time and the opportunity to test again during the second semester.

When will NLRHS Juniors take the exam?  Juniors will take the exam through their American History classes during the second semester. Juniors not in American History will prep and take the exam during their flex block.

What are the specifics of the exam?  The exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions and should be completed in 60 to 90 minutes.  It is taken online via the Moodle platform.  Seniors will take the exam during their flex periods.  They will be able to start and stop the exam as needed. The exam must be taken at school during regular school hours.
