It's Cinco de Mayo! May 5 simply marks the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla in 1862 when 2,000 Mexican soldiers and 2,700 Mexican civilians defeated the French force of 6,000. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of the cultural bond between some Mexican immigrants and their roots. Communities around the state celebrate the many contributions made by Mexican immigrants and highlight the diversity of our beautiful state.
