CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
In May 2025, North Little Rock residents will be asked to vote on a millage increase. The increase is aimed at generating funds to enhance teaching and learning, to restore older facilities, and to make room for additional students and programs.
The capital improvement project has three priorities.
PRIORITY #1: BUILD A BRAND NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Division of Public School Academic Facilities & Transportation has awarded the district $20.8 million in state partnership funding to build a brand new middle school. The middle school building opened in the 1970-1971 school year.
However, in order to receive the funds, the district has to have the support of the community to complete the project. If not, the money will go back to the state, and it could take years to be considered again for partnership funding.
The estimated cost to build a brand new middle school is $68 million.
PRIORITY #2: RENOVATE OLE MAIN
Ole Main is a treasured building in our community. Opening in 1930, it is the most iconic structure in the city. We want to restore this beautiful building, reopen it as a school, and make it a place for community use, such as events, class reunions, and other exciting activities.
The district will commit $30 million to complete this project.
PRIORITY #3: BUILD AN INDOOR SPORTS & ACTIVITY COMPLEX
Our district is the only one in the Class 7A athletic conference that does not have an indoor sports facility. Our student-athletes involved in outdoor sports cannot practice when it is raining or in extreme heat.
In addition, this facility will house a state-of-the-art sports medicine clinic that will be staffed with medical professionals not only to treat the student-athletes but also to train students who are interested in this career field.
The estimated cost to build this indoor facility is $18 million.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
In order for this project to be realized, the district would need the support of the community.
The district is requesting 4.0 additional mills to fund these three priorities.
The entire project is estimated to cost $127.1 million.
